One of the flagship projects of the foundation is to secure habitat
for endangered species. This site is strategic to this project,
as it expands a crucial wildlife corridor for rainforest
fauna within the Daintree. It is also important cassowary
habitat and securing this site will assist in conservation
efforts for the long-term survival of this magnificent bird.
In
1988, Peter and Marianne Dinkelmann purchased this property
from Southedge-Daintree Pastoral Company Pty Ltd. The
Dinkelmanns lived temporarily on site and daily observed
Cassowaries in the rainforest. They eventually decided
against building their future retirement home in the
rainforest. Due to their strong concern for the future
of the cassowary populations in the Daintree, the Dinkelmanns
sold this property to the Foundation.
