Only small patches of rainforest remain in Victoria covering a total of 16,000 hectares. Some ancient rainforest plant species were once common in Australia but are now rare as the Australian climate has become warmer.
Victoria has the most southerly occurrence of
warm temperate rainforest in Australia.

clearing.
Eastern slopes of the Great Diving Range, from Cann River catchments
in East Gippsland, Victoria to Timbarra River tributaries near Drake
New South Wales. These spectacular creatures are one of the largest ground
dwelling frogs in Australia.
East Gippsland and south of Mount Buffalo in north
east Victoria, and south east New South Wales. 80% of their diet is
underground fungi which have a symbiotic relationship with plants and
trees. They are important in the dispersal of fungal spores.
