Angsana Resorts and Spas achieves its Greening goal and becomes an ARF Hero2
Angsana Resort and Spa, Great Barrier Reef, is part of the worldwide Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts Group. The group has a Corporate Social Responsibility program that is extremely proactive with a variety of initiatives. One such initiative is its’ ‘Greening Communities’ program through which every resort in the group has committed to planting 2000 trees in 2007.
Not only has the resort achieved that goal but through its continued commitment to the Australian Rainforest Foundation it has become a Hero2 and is helping us in the fight not only to extend our rainforests by planting new trees, but protecting old growth forests and recovering rare and threatened species.

Angsana began its commitment to extend our rainforests in April 2007, on Earth Day. Joining local booking agent, The Tour Specialists, Angsana staff travelled to the Daintree with tour company Wilderness Challenge to assist in the revegetation work of one of the Australian Rainforest Foundation’s rainforest blocks ‘Emerald Waters’ at Lot 177 Turpentine Road, Diwan.

Roger Phillips, ARF CEO, is dwarfed by the trees planted on Earth Day 07, 12 months later. |
“Everyday at work I promote the Wet Tropics as one of the most wonderfull places in the world. I want to be responsible for making sure that it stays that way. This tour let me do something about that,” Melanie blight of the Tour Specialists said after her day in the Daintree.
“The day wasn’t about making me feel good, although it was very special and a lot of fun, it was about helping the earth, and we all know it desparetly needs it. Our rainforests can help in the fight against climate change and the least we can do is help rejuvenate the rainforests by planting these trees.” |

Done… but that was hot hard work! |
|
In the heat of the December sun Angsana Resort and Spa General Manager Mark Slimmer led a ten strong management team to the Daintree to plant 1000 of their property’s commitment to the Greening Communities program.
“After research, we decided we wanted to work with the Australian Rainforest Foundation and felt that the Daintree was an appropriate area for us to plant the trees considering its World Heritage status and relationship to tourism in our region.
“We were delighted to work with the ARF in achieving our ‘Greening’ goal and hope to work with the organisation on further plantings and projects in 2008,” Mr Slimmer said. |
