The Australian Rainforest Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to education, research and habitat rehabilitation of Australia’s rainforest.
Rainforests only cover 6% of the Earth's surface but are home to 50% of all the animal and plant species on Earth. They provide us with many foods, raw materials and medicines and cool the Earth by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it as carbon in plant material and soil.
Yet, over three-quarters of Australia's rainforests have been destroyed since European settlement and this releases carbon back into the atmosphere.
As temperatures increase due to climate change, scientists believe this will have a further huge impact on our rainforests and all the flora and fauna found there.
With the added pressure of introduced weeds, feral animals and land clearing; we believe it is vital that we protect what precious rainforest we have left now - and help its many threatened inhabitants.
Naturale's 3 point commitment to the Hero2 campaign includes:
- Protecting old growth rainforest
We have purchased a hectare of pristine rainforest in the Daintree, tying up an enormous amount of carbon in its biomass.
- Extending rainforest
The Australian Rainforest Foundation plants 4000 trees on our behalf to further extend and repair the rainforest.
- Recovering threatened animals
We provide significant funding towards the Foundation's Cassowary Corridor, helping to recover this endangered species.
