Environmental study’s students from Vanderbilt University in the US are among a growing group of visitors helping the ARF regenerate its’ Daintree blocks.
Following a successful first visit to the Daintree in 2007 with Cairns tour operator Wilderness Challenge, a second group of students from the Tennessee University will visit the Daintree with the company in May to check on the progress of the 2007 plantings.
The group will spend five days in the Daintree and visit a range of sites including the ARF. Russell Boswell of Wilderness Challenge says Australian and international visitors, students and locals all really enjoy their time with the ARF.
“Tree planting is practical and educational. Everyone enjoys the experience while knowing they are making a positive contribution to the environment,” Mr Boswell said.
Wilderness Challenge regularly brings tourists to the ARF Community Conservation Officer in the Daintree so they can learn about the threats to the region and the importance of rainforest tree planting. Many visitors have contributed additional sponsorship to the Foundation during their visit.
