The Garners Beach Cassowary facility has three adult cassowaries in care and one chick/stripy. There has been no change in the status of any of the birds.
A feeding station is also operating from this facility aiming to assist injured cassowaries.

Tree planting
Over the wet season nearly 400 trees have been planted on the ARF’s conservation block at El Arish in the Mission Beach precinct. The 60ha block was purchased in 2006 as critical cassowary habitat and will be resold with strict conservation covenants on the title. A motion sensor camera has been set up amongst on the block to monitor wildlife movement as tracks have indicated that dogs, wallabies and a cassowary are moving around the area.

Maintenance to suppress grasses and weeds and replace any tree fatalities is ongoing while a buyer is sought.

Weeds
